Contact Our Support Team
1. What is a .com domain?
.com is a generic domain extension operated by Verisign. Originally associated with commercial websites, it is now used by businesses, organisations and individuals worldwide.
2. Who can register a .com domain?
Individuals, businesses and organisations worldwide can register an available .com domain, subject to registry policies and applicable laws.
3. Do I need a registered business or local residency?
No. A registered business or residency in a particular country is not required to register a .com domain. You must provide accurate registration details and complete any required contact verification.
4. How much does a .com domain cost? Is VAT included?
Check the pricing table for current registration, renewal and transfer charges. Promotional offers and aftermarket domain purchases may have different prices. Review the order summary for applicable VAT or other taxes before payment.
5. How long can I register my .com domain for?
.com registrations support terms of 1 to 10 years. Choose from the registration periods available at checkout. Renewals are subject to a maximum remaining registration term of 10 years.
6. Can I transfer my existing .com domain to Gatehills?
Yes, provided the domain is eligible for transfer. Unlock it with your current registrar, obtain the authorisation or EPP code, and submit your transfer request. Applicable transfer locks and domain status restrictions must be cleared first.
7. Does a transfer include an additional year?
An eligible .com transfer normally adds one year to the existing registration period. Exceptions can apply, including the maximum registration term and certain transfers following an auto-renewal.
8. Is domain privacy available for .com?
Yes. .com supports privacy services that help limit public exposure of eligible personal contact details. Service availability, activation and disclosure exceptions depend on the provider’s terms.
9. Does .com support internationalised domain names?
Yes. .com supports internationalised domain names in supported languages and scripts. Character combinations must follow Verisign’s IDN rules. Check whether Gatehills supports registration of your chosen name.
10. Does .com support DNSSEC?
Yes. DNSSEC is supported for .com domains. Activation requires a compatible DNS provider and correct configuration of the domain’s signing and delegation records.
11. When will my domain and website become active?
Your domain must first be successfully registered and configured with the correct DNS records. Website and email availability also depend on their service setup. DNS updates become visible as cached records expire, so timing varies.
12. Are hosting and email included?
Check the included-features section for the services provided with your registration. Email forwarding redirects messages to an existing address; it does not provide a hosted mailbox. Website hosting and mailbox services depend on the package you select.
13. What happens if I do not renew before expiry?
Your website and email may stop working. The registry provides an auto-renew grace window of up to 45 days, but your registrar may apply a shorter renewal deadline. If the domain is deleted and enters redemption, a 30-day restoration period normally applies, with additional fees. A five-day pending-delete period follows if it is not restored, during which recovery is unavailable.
